Apothecary

My heart feels like stone, I’m chilled to the bone
The pox has taken over our home
My love’s at death’s door, I’m seeking a cure
To keep her from the reaper, O Lord
Apothecary, I will give you gold
For a remedy to stop her turning cold
“Your gesture’s sweet but I’ve seen what will be
Tell me boy, oh would you like to see?”
When I decline he’s inside of my mind
Giving me a vision of our demise
Apothecary, oh what is this place?
Some sights familiar some not quite the same
What was the town square is now an open grave
Filled with pale bodies all riddled with plague
The church’s spire is now a tower of flames
Fire spreads through the parish, who is to blame?
A towering demon wraps them all in chains
In the claws of this titan are my love’s remains

His quest to cling to the throne
Has brought him to the place that we call home
With 12,000 men in tow
He’ll try to cross the fields that we sow
In the shadow of the hill
We wait our turn, hungry for the kill
As the enemy draws near
We’re gripped by inexperience and fear
He’ll rue the day
That he came our way
We’ll make him pay
For this ungodly melee
Stained by the blood of the dead
Our green and pleasant land is turning red
But of this I will be sure
They’ve won the battle, but we will win the war

The Plea
04:11

It’s been nigh on a year since our fortunes changed
By the land we gave life to, we were betrayed
Corpses of our cattle lie where they once grazed
Then our crops all perished from the lack of rain
Tell me, O Lord, will it get worse?
How long are we to suffer this curse?
Our barren cellars are empty and our well has run dry
No life apart from the vultures that fill the sky
Life for a working man with many mouths to feed
Becomes a burden when there’s not a scrap to eat
Oh won’t you listen to my plea
Tell me, O Lord, why do I feel
Like eating my child as my next meal?
Oh won’t you listen to my plea

By a Bandit's Knife

Cut down by a bandit’s knife
My heart beats for one last time
Life goes by before my eyes
I step towards the shining light
Pearly gates nowhere in sight
Only bitter, endless night
From the darkness comes a wight
Who says, “I’m here to be your guide”
“In life you were misled
To expect paradise
To be king of dead
That is your true birthright”
On an ashen horse I ride
Race across the starless sky
With a blade that shines so bright
I will take the bandit’s life
